The Special Cell of Delhi Police arrested Qureshi after a brief exchange of fire.

PS Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), said they arrested one of the most wanted terrorists of Students Islamic Movement of India(SIMI) – Indian Mujahideen (IM) Abdul Subhan Qureshi after a brief exchange of fire.

“He is the mastermind of the 2008 serial blasts in Gujarat,” Kushwah said.

The officer did not divulge further details.

A few years ago, the National Investigation Agency had announced a reward of Rs four lakh on the information leading to Qureshi’s arrest.

Qureshi is accused of being originally a commander of the banned terror outfit Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), who later, with the help of other terrorists, launched the Indian Mujahideen.

He is also allegedly involved in various terror-related cases being probed by Delhi, Gujarat and Maharashtra police forces.

A Red Corner Notice had also been issued against Qureshi by Interpol, besides an arrest warrant by a court in Gujarat for his alleged involvement in Ahmedabad blasts case of 2008.

Also called as ‘India’s bin Laden’, Qureshi hails from Maharashtra.

The Gujarat Police started the hunt for Qureshi a day after 21 bomb blasts exploded in Ahmedabad on July 26, 2008.

Qureshi is known as a ‘techie-bomber’.
