Saying that there is a serious attempt to “scandalise” the case, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Thursday said that the petition was not in the interest of the public, but instead, in the interest of the Congress party. Referring to the Supreme Court’s observation that political rivalries have to be settled in the hall of democracy, Prasad said that the BJP condemns Congress’ attempt to “damage the interest of the BJP and its national President Amit Shah”. “BJP condemns reckless allegations made against party President by the Congress party,” Prasad said in a press conference here.

Citing the SC observation that “courts protect the rule of law of resolve disputes” Prasad said that the petition was an attack on the judiciary and an attempt to dilute the credibility of the judicial system. “This case was not activated to serve the public interest but to serve the interests of Congress and damage the interests of BJP, our party President Amit Shah in particular,” he added. “Court said political battles must be fought on political grounds. It clearly means that the case was fought as a political battle against our party President Amit Shah. I urge Rahul Gandhi not to fight political battles through corridors of Court,” he said.
