Sitaram Yechury wants to impeach CJI,Swamy has a suggestion for him

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday took a swipe at CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury after the party began efforts to bring the impeachment motion against Chief Justice of India Deepak Misra in the coming budget session.

Swamy’s reaction came after CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Tuesday said his party is reaching out to other opposition parties to discuss the possibility of bringing an impeachment motion against Misra.

“Yechuri sounds demented in asking for an impeachment of CJI. Leftist don’t like CJI because he quotes from Sanskrit! Impeach Karat first,”Swamy tweeted.

“Does not he know the procedure? In parliament, you need majority votes; they do not have a majority. To show their strength, they say such meaningless things,” Swamy told ANI.

The four senior judges of the Supreme Court, justices J Chelameswar, Ranjan Gogoi, Madan B Lokur and Kurian Joseph, had virtually revolted against CJI Dipak Misra on January 12, raising questions on “selective” case allocation and certain judicial orders at a press conference.

Opposition parties like the Congress and the CPI(M) had then called for a probe into the issues flagged by the four judges.

The CPI(M) leader felt that even though nearly two weeks have passed since the four senior judges raised issues against the CJI, the crisis has not been resolved within the judiciary.

“These are very grave issues which have been raised. We want the integrity and the independence of the judiciary to be established.

The Budget Session of Parliament is set to commence on January 29 and the Union Budget for 2018-19 will be presented on February 1.

The first phase of the session will be from January 29 to February 9. After a recess, Parliament will meet again from March 5 to April 6.
