Akshay Kumar’s Pad Man Rescheduled,Padmavat to Release solo on 25 January

The first and the biggest clash of 2018 has been averted as Akshay Kumar‘s Pad Man will now release on February 9, while Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat now gets a solo release on January 25. This means that Pad Man will now release with the Sidharth Malhotra-Manoj Bajpayee starrer, Aiyaary. The announcement was made a few minutes ago by Akshay at a press conference. Let’s run you through the changes in the release dates that the film has had to go through. So it all started with a clash between Pad Man and 2.0, which stars Rajinikanth and Akshay during the Republic Day weekend. But then having two movies starring Akshay on the same weekend obviously was not a logical thing to do. That’s the reason, 2.0 has been postponed to April 14.

Then Aiyaary and Pad Man were scheduled to hit the theatres together. But then the makers of Aiyaary decided to push it to February 9. Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor’s Padmaavat, which was facing a lot of hurdles came into the picture again. The movie got a clearance from the government and the Central Board of Film Certification, and they decided to release it with Pad Man on January 25.

Now, Padmaavat is a big film when compared to Pad Man. And we are not just talking about budget per se. You see, there has been so much said and written about the SLB directorial that people are all the more curious to watch it. Also a lot of states banned the release of Padmaavat, after which the makers moved to Supreme Court to take legal action. The apex court thankfully lifted the ban on the movie, but despite that, members of the Rajput Karni Sena in those states, have threatened to burn down theatres, where the film will be screened. Obviously, the producers of Padman don’t want their movie to get affected with all the controversy around Padmaavat and hence they found it apt to avoid this clash.

This also means good business for Pad Man as Akshay has managed to create a stronger buzz for his film than Sidharth and Manoj have for Aiyaary. The cine-goers will be attracted to Pad Man on February 9.
